It All Began in My Grandparent's Backyard
Their half acre hosted countless whiffle ball games, lawn darts, and a tire swing that hung from the massive black walnut tree. But it also produced apples, grapes, figs, and a large veggie garden that my grandma tended tirelessly from May Day til fall. I remember the smell of the tomato plants, which she surrounded with terracotta tiles to warm the spring soil. She wasn’t a cookie-baking grandma - she was a tomato-growing grandma.
By high school, I was growing an herb garden in pots on our back patio. And by the time my husband and I bought our first house, a darling little bungalow with a dozen rose bushes and a picket fence, I was hooked. Three decades later, the garden is still my refuge. And I want that for you too. So, follow along as I experiment, DIY, and sometimes learn the hard way.
